Dr. Eugene Mak, an oncologist, has written a very informative article at medicalacupuncture.org about the use of acupuncture for cancer patients. We have
had extensive experience with cancer patients. Our
Active Acupuncture
philosophy,
the combined use of exercise and acupuncture, has earned us praise from many people.

"...The words almost didn’t matter. I knew I was sick. I knew I was tired. I knew
I wanted to go home to my 10-year-old son. But even then, at the start of my journey,
I sensed that life as I had known it and lived it and wanted to live it was over.
I felt alone with my weighty diagnosis. Stage 4 breast cancer. The cancer had already
spread from my right breast to both of my lungs…I was told my disease was not curable,
but I felt that metastatic cancer is more than a physical disease…I needed to find
a combination of something physical to help my body heal and something that would
help my mind and my spirit.
Many things and people have kept me going. One of them is Mr. Gu, a man who teaches
a special, healing form of exercise. When I first went to Mr. Gu’s class, the exercises
seemed very hard to me—my energy level was low and it was difficult for me to do
them correctly. He assigned a woman to help me, to push me, to make sure I did the
exercises frequently and correctly. That was 10 months ago. I now do some form of
his exercises each day, and I see him once a week. I feel great. I have a lot more
energy, and I am able to keep up in class. My last CT scan showed no evidence of
disease. This is my second clean CT scan. I feel that doing Mr. Gu’s exercises (and
speaking with Mr. Gu) has put me on the path of recovery. He has a wonderful energy,
and he generously shares it with his students."

Janet Irwin, cancer patient in Gu’s Norwalk Hospital group wrote the following report
on July 22, 2004: "Mr. Gu has created a unique form of exercise designed specifically
to help combat the invasion of cancer. Unlike other exercises, these are focused
on strongly stimulating the blood circulation to awaken and cleanse the internal
organs, one by one. "The resultant change in the internal environment of the body
is very important for people suffering from malignant illness. These exercises activate
the immune cells and enhance the functioning of the immune system.
"Many cancer patients often feel chilled, experiencing cold hands and feet. Over
time, doing these exercises brings the body from always feeling cold to a more normal
body temperature.
"While doing these exercises, the body experiences a sensation of heat within and
the face reddens quickly. Patients experience a feeling of rejuvenation and become
more energetic. For some, pain disappears within five minutes. Participants in the
class are very encouraged"

hospital classes for several years. "he is helping my immune system." She says,

disease." - "Exercising Good Health

"I don’t know much about alternative medicine or how it works, but it does," says
Phyllis Steinbrecher. Diagnosed with cancer a year ago, her condition is stable—thanks
in large part to Mr. Gu. "I don’t ask questions, she says." "I just do it. And it
works."

According to participants in Gu’s Norwalk Hospital group, the exercises boost energy.
"We, his students, find that these exercises boost energy levels," they stated in
a recent report. They continued "One of the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation
is fatigue and we feel encouraged that the exercises make us feel more energized.
One patient reports that now she is free of pain."

Another classmate, in her 40s, was diagnosed with meningitis, which decimated her
central nervous system, and she had heart problems along with the discovery of an
aneurysm. What followed was a year of chest pain, fever, minor strokes and operations
and a diagnosis of central nervous system Lyme disease. More tests revealed significant
damage to both hemispheres of the brain. "In spring of 2001 I was extremely debilitated.
Having heard about Mr. Gu, I decided to go to his class, position myself in the
front row and do what I saw him do and keep my mind open to what he said. His message
is forthright. Cancer and other illnesses do not like a clean environment. You must
keep the vessels and organs clean," she said. That was July. By October I noticed
a significant difference. I am very committed to doing the exercises daily. It is
a great privilege to receive what he has to offer. He is an extraordinary human
being. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself," she said.
