Acupuncture for Headaches Migraines
Headaches and migraines come in many different flavors. Acupuncture, even when performed
by the novice practitioner, is effective in providing temporary relief from the
common symptoms of headaches and migraines. However, in order to provide lasting
relief, the overall health of the body and the root
cause of the headaches must
be elucidated. Headaches and migraines can be caused by something as benign
as a tense neck or by something much more insidious, such as a hormone imbalance.
In our years of experience we have treated a wide array of headache and pain related
disorders and our patients typically see results in just a few sessions.

I have been having major issues with sinus pain and back tightness and I have tried
everything! Except for acupuncture of course. I found this place on line and read
some of the reviews and totally agree that this is a great place to check out...
My headache went aways - my shoulders
still have a long way to go but they do feel more loose. I would recommed anyone
go there! It is worth your while.

Amy kalafa, 48, a documentary film producer contracted central nervous system Lyme
disease in 1998. She suffered from constant severe headache, a severely swollen
neck, stabbing pains in her ears and chest, disregulation of her pulmonary functions,
severe insomnia, muscle and joint aches. Seizure-like convulsions, memory loss,
dizziness, depression and more. ‘I thought I would never get better. I had some
improvement on a regimen of IV, then oral antibiotics and anti-seizure medication,
but each time I tried to go off these medications, my symptoms quickly returned,"
she said. "Someone recommended Mr. Gu’s class. It took a while to get the hang of
these exercises –subtle movements of hormone-producing organs that I wasn’t used
to isolating, but eventually I mastered several well enough to practice them at
home. I noticed that I felt much better on days when I did the exercises , so I
did them every morning and still continue to do so," she said, adding she has not
had a recurrence of Lyme symptoms and her memory functions are nearly back to normal.

I came to Dr. Chen and Mr. Gu for my problem with frequent headaches after a friend
told me about their practice. I had never tried anything beyond pain killers and
western medicine for my headaches. My neurologist had pretty much told me that if
he gave me more medicine my liver would shut down. During my first visit, I was
given a set of exercises to practice before treatments and at home to "ready my
body for healing." After the exercises, I was given needles in my back arms and
neck. When I went for my first treatment, my head felt pretty good, so I did not
see any immediate benefits, but then my headache did not return for the rest of
the week! I was so amazed I called and made appointments for the next month. When
I go into the treatments with a headache, the relief is almost instant. When I get
headaches at home, I do my exercises and it helps quite a bit. Now, after several
months of treatments, my headaches come much less frequently and when they do come
they do not feel nearly as bad. I have significantly lowered the dose of the medications
I was taking and feel confident I won't need them in the future. I highly recommend
Dr. Chen and Mr. Gu to anyone suffering from pain!

Scientific Literature
Key points from recent publications:
- 91 suffers of migraine headaches or tension headaches were divided into two groups.
One group was given acupuncture over 4 weeks and another continued on their previous
headache treatments without acupuncture. The group that was given acupuncture had,
on average, 51% fewer headaches, which was significantly better than the group that
did not receive acupuncture. (more)
- 401 patients, mostly suffering from migraine headaches were entered into a randomized,
placebo-controlled study. The study concluded that acupuncture not only improved
migraine symptoms across several criteria, but also presented a cost-effective alternative
to traditional treatments. (more)
