"I asked for help with the rigidity and pain from my severe scoliosis and with the
tremors from my Parkinson’s. Both the exercises I was assigned and the acupuncture
helped me to reestablish a sense of equilibrium and increased mobility, and an overall
feeling of calm. The service is excellent. They made me feel understood and your
attention was very individualized and steady.
What is unique about Dr. Chen’s and Mr. Gu’s practice is the combination of carefully
individualized exercise before the acupuncture, both directed at the immediate problems
and the underlying difficulty. The acupuncture is then given several times during
the treatment, achieving an amazing degree of relief and effectiveness."

"I’ve been receiving acupuncture for my thyroid. When I was diagnosed with this
problem, my endocrinologist wanted to treat me with radiation. I then started looking
for alterative medicine. I started acupuncture with traditional medication for the
thyroid. My endocrinologist said that it probably won’t work any way. For his surprise,
after six month of receiving both treatments, I got no more problems with my thyroid.
I got cure."

For the past 14 years, Patty Shroder, 49, a former administrator at the Maritime
Aquarium at Norwalk, has had chromic degenerative Lyme disease. "My memory was so
bad I forgot when to take my medication. I couldn’t carry on a conversation. My
Pain was absolutely unrelenting. I had chills, joint pain, impaired vision, back
spasms. I couldn’t read. Finally, a friend took me to Mr. Gu’s class to benefit
my immune system. The improvement was so dramatic. I couldn't believe it. Six months
later I am still on antibiotics, but I feel much better and am able to function
quite well," she said.

George Miller, 76, came to Mr. Gu’s class three years ago with serious kidney disease,
anemia and asthma. “my nephrologist told me to get ready for dialysis because of
the numbers in my kidney dysfunction. But I’m not going there! My number are now
stable. In 10 or 15 minutes of these exercises, my whole body warms up. I do an abbreviated
version of the exercises every day at home. I can even go out and get the paper
in my pajamas and not feel cold. After class I feel absolutely astoundingly better.

While doctors can’t identify why these exercises are effective, patient feedback
is very positive, says Bernadette Johnson, coordinator of the Integrative Medicine
Program at Greenwich Hospital “I remember looking at pulmonary patients who had
difficulty breathing. After they did the exercises, the percentage of oxygen that
could be measured in their blood was improved.”

Ed Bloom: “For at least two years, I’ve participated in Mr. Gu’s weekly class. His
exercise program is unique, designed to stimulate the internal organs, increase
the blood flow and build the immune system. They do not concentrate on building
muscle strength, although to some extent that may be a by-product. “My results have
been: substantially less asthma, a dramatic reduction in the number of colds, increased
endurance, and a general feeling of well being.”

Gu has designed his exercises to increases seniors’ energy levels and promote good
blood circulation. Taking one class is enough to show their effectiveness...Charlotte
Abrams, 81, tells me she could walk only a few steps before the back of her right
calf cramped so badly that it felt like a too-tightly stretched rubber band from
ankle to knee. Doing the exercises, she says, makes the pain go away immediately.
“Mr. Gu is unreal,” she says. “He changed my life.”

daily several times a week to supplement Gu's class. “that's what it takes to get
your lungs opened up,” she says. When done properly, the exercises allow her to
breathe more deeply.
